I just got my slides back and here are a few of one of the male Calliope
Hummingbirds at Fort Tryon Park. The pictures were taken Sunday December 2, 2001
Sorry for the short write up on these pictures - I don't have the time!
Anyway note:
- the elongated gorget feathers
- wing projection beyond tail
- short bill and tail (compare with the rufous pictures)
- shape and pattern of the tail feathers, some rufous in the base of the outer
tail feathers.
- and the light buffy ring across its breast (Stoke's Western Region shows a
picture of a female Calliope with this ring (page 261)
