what we do

We love to share our enthusiasm about birds, butterflies, plants, animals, and yes, even insects. Our programs are free. All of our work is done by volunteers. Most of our members are from the communities of Westchester County on or near the Hudson River, south of I-287: Yonkers, Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley and Irvington. We do not limit participation by location: anyone interested in our programs is welcome. We teach and learn from one and other. No particular expertise is required, only curiosity.

We advocate for the environment and for birds, both locally and nationally. Much of our advocacy is done in conjunction with our parent organization, the National Audubon Society. We are one of their 450 US chapters.

If you live in Yonkers, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry or Irvington, by joining the National Audubon, you are assigned by your zip code to be members of Hudson River Audubon. If you want to join our chapter, but don’t live in those areas, you can request membership in our chapter by indicating you want membership in chapter R-20. Then you will be both a National Audubon and and a Hudson River Audubon member.

You can join Hudson River Audubon Society directly by sending a check for $30 to Hudson River Audubon Society, specifying membership on check, mailing to P O Box 616, Yonkers, NY 10703. You may also pay through PayPal; note payment is for membership.
