Our annual Bird-A-Thon
The Bird-A-Thon is an annual fundraiser, taking place at the height of spring migration. In a 24-hour period, teams search for as many birds as possible. This year, we started at 5:30 PM on Saturday, May 16, and continued for 24 hours to 5:30 PM Sunday, May 17.
We had two teams: the Raven-Loonatics and the Bird Nerds. The Raven-Loonatics won with 98 species seen or heard; the Bird Nerds were a close second with 95. Since each team found different species in different locations, the grand total was 114 - and all in Westchester County and all in 24 hours.
It’s a fundraiser, please donate
There are several ways to financially contribute to this fundraiser.
You can donate a fixed amount.
The Bird-A-Thon is like a walk-a-thon, bike-a-thon or any other “thon.” Rather than pledging X amount of money per lap or mile, you can contribute for each bird species seen in the 24-hour period. The combined list for all participants was 114 species. Perhaps you’d like to contribute 50 cents per species of bird? Better yet $1?
Checks should be payable to the Hudson River Audubon Society. Mail to Hudson River Audubon Society, PO Box 616, Yonkers, NY 10703
